The Town of Renfrew is considering building a unique biomass and municipal-solid-waste (“MSW”) co-generation facility. This exciting project would generate power and heat for the local utility and a group of nearby buildings.
The project will have many local benefits. It will boost the economy by keeping and creating jobs in Renfrew. It will keep the lights on and protect Renfrew from future province-wide blackouts. And it will add to the remaining life of the landfill. We will be using our own fuel source which is presently being buried in the ground.
This green or “renewable” energy project is environmentally friendly because of the fuel that will be used to generate light and heat. Wood waste will be the primary fuel source. This will help to reduce the growing environmental problem of wood waste accumulating in the local forests and sawmills. The Town’s own garbage will be used as the secondary fuel source. This will help the Town extend the life of the landfill and will assist with environmental issues.
This website has information about the project and an upcoming COMMUNITY
OPEN HOUSE where you can talk to the people involved, check out the technology and ask whatever questions you like. Community input will be important for Town Council as they review the Business Plan that’s now being prepared.
Please take a look around this website and let Council know what you think by sending in your comments.
