Town of Renfrew - RenfrewGreenEnergy.com

Who is involved in the Renfrew Green Energy Facility proposal?

The discussions to date have included a number of local stakeholders, the Town of Renfrew, County of Renfrew, Renfrew Industrial Commission, the Renfrew Victoria Hospital, Bonnechere Manor, Groves Park, Quail Creek Lodge, Renfrew Hydro, Renfrew Power Generation, local sawmill owners and woodlot operators.

Who would use the heat?

The project will need “heat hosts” to optimize the size, performance and economics of the project. There are a number of institutions in the immediate vicinity of the proposed site that could benefit from the heat generated by the project. This includes Renfrew Victoria Hospital, Quail Creek Retirement Centre and Groves Park Long-Term Care Lodge. By buying their heat from the Renfrew Green Energy Facility, these buildings could reduce their overall heating bills. If there is sufficient additional heat, there could be the possibility of additional commercial ventures being started.

Who would use the power?

The electricity generated by the Renfrew Green Energy Facility would be available to all residents of Renfrew. As a possible partner in the project, Renfrew Hydro will be able to reduce the amount of power they buy through the provincial grid from other companies like Ontario Power Generation. This could in turn reduce the overall cost of power to you, the consumer. It also means that if the lights go out again in Ontario, Renfrew will have enough home-grown power to keep emergency services in operation. The lights will stay on for all health-care institutions and the police, fire and ambulance departments.

Our future is friendly...
